Group profile
I.O.I
아이오아이 · Ideal of Idol; the lettering also echoes the number 101.
I.O.I was created through Mnet's Produce 101, which brought together 101 trainees from different Korean entertainment companies. The eleven highest-ranked finalists became a temporary project group, an approach that was new to mainstream Korean idol television at the time.

A temporary group with a lasting story
Ten months became ten years of memory.
Although the original promotion period lasted only about ten months, the group released two full-group EPs, a unit single album and a farewell single. The members then continued across music, acting, musical theatre, variety and modeling before nine members returned for the tenth-anniversary LOOP project.
The 2026 album and promotions feature nine members. Jieqiong and Mina did not participate in recording or promotions, while all eleven remain part of the group's historical profile; their previously recorded voices appear on Goodbye With A Smile.
I.O.I functioned as a project group with members temporarily gathered from multiple agencies, so the archive treats the group profile as both a lineup record and an index of member activity.
Original-era, unit-era and reunion-era participation are tracked separately so songs, broadcasts and media can clearly show who appeared in each chapter.
Fan-facing information is organized by era rather than by a single current status, because I.O.I's identity spans short promotional windows, post-project careers and reunion moments.
